Sweet cocktails get a bad rap. And we get it. if you’re strictly a Scotch drinker, a whiskey fan, or a tequila lover – it’s easy to assume that all sweet drinks are made with those super sweet flavored vodkas. Well the truth is – they’re not. Some of the best sweet cocktails we know of include cognac, rum, gin, and tequila.

Don’t snub your nose up at this list just yet. The fact is that a lot of people like sweet drinks. If nothing else, the multi-billion dollar soda industry proves that. So go at these with an open mind and remember – making a cocktail is like making a steak – everyone likes theirs just a little bit differently. What we’re trying to say is you can go always go sweeter or less sweet – so test these out and adjust the recipes to your specific taste.

Enjoy!

Grasshopper – cool green color

In a cool shade of green, the Grasshopper is a classic sweet drink. This one combines 1.5 ounces of cognac with 1 ounce of crème de menthe, 1 ounce of crème de cocoa, and 1.5 ounces of heavy cream. To make the drink right, just combine all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice. Pour it into a glass and, if you want an extra-sweet touch, garnish it with some chocolate shavings.

Strawberry Pomegranate Mojito

Ready to test your muddling skills? The Strawberry Pomegranate Mojito not only tastes fruity and delicious, but you’ll get a good arm and shoulder workout trying to muddle the ingredients.

To make this sweet cocktail, muddle strawberries, mint leaves, and a bit of lime juice in the bottom of a glass. If you want an even sweeter kick, you can add some sugar as well. When you’re done muddling, fill the glass with the rum and pomegranate juice. The more rum you add, the stiffer it will be. The more pomegranate juice you use, the sweeter it will taste. Leave a little bit of room and top it off with club soda.

Blue Margarita

Who doesn’t love a blue drink? We know we certainly do. Not only does the Blue Margarita taste sweet, but it looks sweet as can be (kind of like that blue Hawaiian punch we drank as kids).

For this one you’ll need 4 ounces of tequila, a teaspoon of sugar, ¼ cup of lime juice, 1 ounce of triple sec, and 2 ounces of blue curacao to give it that cool blue color. Mix all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice and pour into a margarita glass (rimmed with salt, of course). To make it look even more colorful, garnish it with a lime wedge.

Blood and Sand

Though sweet is in the very name of one of the main ingredients, sweet vermouth cocktails are not nearly as sweet as some of the other drinks on this list. But if you already know that you like cocktails with sweet vermouth, it’s time to try a Blood and Sand.

The Blood and Sand requires ¾ ounces each of Scotch, sweet vermouth, cherry liqueur, and orange juice. Mix it all into a shaker with ice, shake well, and strain in to a glass. For a fancy pants twist, you can garnish it with an orange peel.

Strawberry Gin Lemonade

When it comes to sweet cocktails, sweet gin cocktails are some of our absolute favorites. Maybe it’s our love for dry gin. Maybe it’s our childhood love of lemonade. Whatever the reason, this boozy Strawberry Gin Lemonade is perfect for any summer day.

First, make a strawberry puree by mixing 2 cups of quartered strawberries and ½ cup of water in a blender. Strain that so it’s nice and smooth.

Pour a few tablespoons of the puree into a glass, fill the glass with ice, and add 2 ounces of gin. To finish it off, just add 3 ounces of strawberry juice and 4 ounces of lemonade. It’s kind of like summer in a glass.

The Sweet Pink Cosmo

Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha may have made the cosmo famous in the ‘90s, but it’s been around for way longer than that. Versions of this drink date back to the early 1900’s, but it really became what it is today when citrus vodka hit the market in the 1980’s.

For a colorful Sweet Pink Cosmo, combine 1.5 ounces of citrus vodka with ½ ounce of Cointreau, ½ ounce of lime juice, and 1 ounce of cranberry juice. Shake it in a shaker, strain, and pour into a martini glass. That’s it!

Is it a vodka cranberry? Sort of… But the Cointreau makes it a bit more sophisticated and a bit more complex. But hey, if you don’t have any Cointreau or lime juice on hand, a good old vodka-cran will always do.

The Original Daiquiri

Part sweet and part sour, the Original Daiquiri is a far cry from those brain freeze-inducing frozen slurpees you buy on Bourbon Street. Daiquiris come in just about every flavor you can think of, but this simple, classic one is definitely our fave.

Combine 1.5 ounces of light rum with ¾ ounces of lime juice and ¼ ounce of simple syrup. Shake it with ice, strain, and pour. So easy – just the right amount of sweet!

Melon Ball

If you want to go retro with a super sweet ‘80s favorite, the Melon Ball is it. We don’t see too many people drinking these lately, which we think kind of makes it cool again. It’s also super easy to make and perfect if you want something that’s not just sweet, but refreshing.

The Melon Ball requires 2 ounces of Midori, 1 ounce of vodka, and as much fresh squeezed orange juice as you like. Fill a glass with ice, add the Midori and vodka, and top it off with OJ. It’s as simple as that. If you really want to give it the full ‘80s look, garnish it with a few melon balls on a skewer.

Mudslide

Almost more dessert than drink, the Mudslide is a cocktail classic that includes two of our favorite things: vodka and ice cream. It’s kind of the equivalent of an adult milkshake – making it perfect for drinking as a meal or downing after one.

The Mudslide calls for 1 ounce of vodka, 1 ounce of Kahlua, 1 ounce of Irish cream, 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream, and 1 cup of ice. Mix it all into a blender (including the ice) and pour it into a tall glass. To make it even sweeter (and better looking), drizzle some chocolate syrup on top.

Tequila Sunrise

If you want to feel like you’re chillin’ on a Mexican beach, the Tequila Sunrise is the sweet cocktail to try right now. Not only has this drink has been around since the 1930’s, but it has inspired a song and a movie – which gives it a bit more clout than a lot of other cocktails out there.

For this sweet drink you’ll need 2 ounces of blanco tequila, 3 ounces of orange juice, and ½ ounce of grenadine (yes, that sweet syrupy stuff you put in Shirley temples). But the trick to this drink is getting the look right – after all, it’s supposed to look like a sunrise, get it?

Pour the tequila and OJ into a glass and stir. Then, drop the grenadine in so that it falls straight to the bottom. This is what gives it that cool ombre sunrise look.

Pinnacle Vodka Cocktails

We started out by saying that sweet drinks don’t have to be full of candy-flavored vodka. But because this is a sweet cocktail list, we just couldn’t omit them completely. We are, however, grouping them all together as one drink. Because in our opinion, putting whipped cream, vanilla, or birthday cake vodka in a drink isn’t all that much different.

So let’s just call this one the Pinnacle Vodka cocktail. You know Pinnacle, that brand that makes all those super sweet flavors like caramel apple, cotton candy, and marshmallows. Basically, with Pinnacle vodka, you can just pick your favorite candy or dessert and turn it into a drink.

Some popular versions of Pinnacle vodka cocktails include:

  • Birthday cake vodka with vanilla liqueur and half and half
  • Whipped cream vodka with hot chocolate
  • Grape vodka and vanilla vodka with a splash of cranberry juice
  • Cherry lemonade vodka with straight up lemonade

One thing’s for sure: any of these Pinnacle drinks will cure your sweet tooth cravings in an instant!
